Endurance athletes improve faster by lifting weights

Endurance athletes improve faster by lifting weights

coaching, endurance, endurance sports, Fat loss ...

I am still amazed how many coaches are still not utilizing the development of various forms of strength when training their endurance event athletes. The data proving the efficacy of power development exercises to increase endurance running and cycling has been available since the fall of the wall.

The opening to the west of Soviet sponsored research results revealed with great precision that improvements in performance speed can be increased more rapidly by using plyometrics and slow speed weight lifting than by using more conventional techniques of sport specific training.

In fact, the Russians even measured the metabolic demands of running a 5K and then determined how many stationary squats would be necessary to produce the same metabolic demand.

Well, recently, Australian scientists reviewed the papers published on the subject of weight training and its effects on endurance performance and concluded that weight training and plyometrics can indeed produce dramatically more significant performance improvements than training done without including them.

If you would like some guidance on how to incorporate weight training and plyometrics into your training just write to at the email address below and tell me what kind of equipment you have access to and I will write you a program that will be custom designed to help you improve your events more rapidly than you ever thought possible.
